Communicating any message, regardless of how clear it may seem, isn't always easy. Along the way we encounter bias, prejudice, preconceived notions, assumptions; all things that make a writer's job even more difficult, and which can result in the true meaning of a story or message to become lost. But a great writer can navigate these roadblocks, and they do so by conveying a message, clearly and concisely, to the reading audience.
That's what I focus on accomplishing each time I begin working on a new writing project which, inevitably, brings about the questions: What message do I want to convey to the readers? Do I want them to take action, or do I simply want to create awareness by educating the reader on a particular subject matter? Whether it's a media release for a non-profit organization, a personal essay for a national newspaper, or a feature article, I strive to inform, enlighten and, ultimately, leave the reader with a clear understanding of the real story.
